User Research in London
We help London organisations understand their users through usability testing, UX research, PPIE, and in-depth interviews. Most projects are delivered remotely from our Yorkshire base, with in-person sessions available when being there matters, all at a Yorkshire-based cost structure rather than a central London one.
London research, Yorkshire-based delivery
Participation Studio is based in Huddersfield and Leeds. For London clients, most projects run entirely remotely: moderated usability sessions, UX interviews, and many PPIE programmes work just as well over video call as they do in a London studio, and remote delivery often means faster recruitment and a wider pool of participants.
When in-person work matters, such as testing physical environments, community engagement, or stakeholder workshops, we travel to London and quote travel and venue costs separately. Either way, our day rates and overheads are set against a Yorkshire cost base rather than a central London one, so the same budget typically goes further.

Research that fits what you actually need
From rapid usability studies to PPIE programmes, here's how London organisations work with us.
Usability Testing
Watch real users navigate your website, app, or product. Moderated sessions, run remotely or in person in London, that show exactly where people get stuck, confused, or give up before they convert.
Usability testing →UX Research for Digital Products
Discovery and evaluation research for product teams. Interviews, contextual enquiry, and behavioural research that explain why users do what they do, not just what they click.
UX research →PPIE & Patient and Public Involvement
Credible patient and public involvement for London's NHS trusts and integrated care systems, plus the capital's large pharmaceutical and life sciences sector, for grant applications, governance, and service redesign.
PPIE & PPI services →In-Depth User Research
One-to-one conversations that go beyond surface feedback. Particularly useful for complex journeys, sensitive topics, or hard-to-reach groups, including patients, carers, and people with lived experience across London.
In-depth research →Focus Groups & Workshops
Group discussion, co-design, and stakeholder workshops, facilitated in London or remotely, for service design, community consultation, and concept development.
Focus groups & workshops →Design Validation
Test prototypes, wireframes, and concepts with real users before development starts. It is cheaper to fix a Figma file than a shipped product.

Common questions about user research in London
Do you travel to London for in-person research?
Yes. While most London projects are delivered remotely, we travel from Yorkshire for in-person sessions, workshops, and fieldwork when being there matters. We quote travel and venue costs separately and transparently, so you know exactly what an in-person day adds to a project.
Can the whole project be run remotely?
Yes, and for London projects this is often the default. Moderated sessions over video call work well for usability testing, UX research, and many PPIE projects, with participants recruited from London or anywhere else in the UK.
How do you recruit participants in London?
We recruit through community networks, participant panels, and professional recruitment, screening against whatever criteria matter for your project, including sector, role, health condition, or demographic background. London's size means we can recruit tightly defined audiences, from specific boroughs to specific professional or patient groups.
What sectors do you work with in London?
London covers everything from financial services and fintech to major NHS trusts, government departments, professional services, life sciences, and a dense startup and scale-up scene. We work across all of these, bringing the same healthcare and digital research expertise we use across the rest of the UK.
Why use a Yorkshire-based team for London research?
Distance from London does not affect the quality of moderated research, recruitment, or analysis, and most of it happens remotely regardless of where an agency is based. What changes is cost. Our day rates and overheads are set against a Yorkshire cost base, not a central London one, so London clients get the same calibre of research without paying for a London office.
How does pricing compare to a London agency?
Our projects start from £5,500 for a focused usability or UX research study, with the same scope, recruitment quality, and reporting you would expect from a London agency. Because our cost base is in Yorkshire rather than central London, that budget typically covers more sessions or a broader research programme for the same spend.

- Usability problems in an insulin device surfaced before manufacturing locked anything in, with human factors evidence supporting the regulatory submission.
- An NHS patient portal team got a prioritised, evidenced list of adoption barriers, and the highest-leverage fix wasn't the one they expected.
- Patient involvement changed a trial's primary endpoint before the protocol was finalised, cited by the ethics committee as a model for evidencing PPIE.
